"Jump Pose Photo Challenge!"
H.12:00 PM SLT
[The following Episode #56 will be on:
6th of April 2024]
Hello Photographers!
Are you curious to see the assigned homework displayed here today for the “Jump Pose Photo Challenge!” of our new episode #55? I am! It is always interesting to see the different responses to a specific challenge, and I can’t wait to discover all your peculiar photographic views and your own style, given to this task assigned at our last episode!
But! Before jumping.. ehrm.. into the new topics, I have an announce for you all! But more so.. for one of you! Who will they be? I don’t know yet, but if you feel an urge to IM me when hearing who we are looking for.. Don’t hold it back! What am I talking about? … Photo Cafe’ wants you! for the Spring edition of our “In The Spot” – quarterly seasonal display!
Did you all see the beautiful “Winter” picture that we have here in our chat circle by Sio? The photo is titled: “Wild Horses with Grain” and it has been here with us for the last quarter! It was taken to represent the “Winter” season and if you touch the easel, it will deliver you also Sio’s notes about the picture. It will be soon time to change to.. “Spring”! and, to do so, we will need one of you as volunteer photographer!
For those of you who are not aware about our “In The Spot” initiative, there is more to read on our website, on this page here:
https://www.photocafe.news/in-the-spot/
where you will find a presentation of the initiative, together with the previous seasonal photos display list. We started exactly 2yrs ago with this recurrent event, and we collected so many beautiful views from many of you! Soooo.. it’s time to volunteer a new representative!
The task for our volunteer photographer is the following: to take a photo themed “Spring” that will represent the current season and that will be kept on display in our chat circle for the following 3 months time. You will also have to write a small presentation for your photo (a couple of sentences are also enough!), and your work will be displayed here on the land and on our website until “Summer”!
You are also encouraged to post the seasonal photo on your Flickr (if you use it), and to share it in our Photo Cafe’ Flickr group: https://www.flickr.com/groups/14789205@N20 which collects photos taken on the land or related to our activity here on SL! You can get inspired by the previous photographers about what to write in your note accompanying your photo (Sio’s current season is on the website here: https://www.photocafe.news/2024/01/01/in-the-spot-2024-winter/ also) and you can IM me for specific question and/or to propose yourself as our Spring representative!
In the unfortunate case that we won’t get anyone to volunteer before the end of the episode, we will volunteer one of you! So, if you were being undecided so far.. Step ahead! You will get good karma and everyone will be thankful for this task being assigned to you! IM me now!
And, speak about tasks.. We had one assigned to all of us since 2 weeks ago: the “Jump Pose Photo Challenge!”.. I hope you all have uploaded your photo(s) in copy/transfer perms at least cause you will be requested to display them very very soon! By our wonderful host: Josephine – to whom I now give the word to start out episode #55! For today’s intro I am done, thank you everyone for attention!
[12:28] Josephine Delvalle: Dear photographers and artists, welcome to a new round of our biweekly discussions.
[12:28] Josephine Delvalle: This time we have announced a slightly different challenge. We asked you to take a photo using a given pose.
[12:28] Josephine Delvalle: I’m very curious how you interpreted this pose.
[12:29] Josephine Delvalle: I would like to ask the artist, who is showing us his/her photo, to tell us:
[12:29] Josephine Delvalle: a) what state of mind does this pose express for you?
[12:29] Josephine Delvalle: b) what story did you want to tell with the photo and
[12:29] Josephine Delvalle: c) how did you tell this story/what stylistic elements did you use besides the pose?
[12:30] Josephine Delvalle: d) what was the particular challenge?
[12:30] Josephine Delvalle: But before the artist is telling us that. I would like to ask you, what is the photo talking to you?
[12:31] Josephine Delvalle: An artist tells something with his picture. An image affects us. But it doesn’t have to have the same effect on everyone. It doesn’t necessarily have to resonate with us exactly the same story that the artist wanted to tell.
[12:31] Josephine Delvalle: We are different, have different life experiences. We don’t all have the same ‘resonator’. That’s why the photo resonates differently.
[12:31] Josephine Delvalle: We don’t all have the same strings, stretched equally tightly, so a picture doesn’t necessarily strike the same chords with everyone.
[12:32] Josephine Delvalle: That’s why I’d like to give the rest of you the floor first and the artist second.
[12:32] Josephine Delvalle: And now: who has a photo for us?
[12:34] Kika Yongho: c
[12:34] Josephine Delvalle: Kika?
[12:34] Kika Yongho: I have a photo
[12:35] Josephine Delvalle: yeah, we have our first photo, Thank you Kika
[12:38] A. (ava.darkheart): c
[12:38] Josephine Delvalle: Ava, please
[12:40] A. (ava.darkheart): So before Kika answers all the question and explains what feeling she got there, my first impression is that she’s not only jumping there, she floats, running into the air, with the blurring focus all around make the motion even more clear, and the sky agreed with the ethereal feeling. Done
[12:41] Josephine Delvalle: anyone else has an impression?
[12:42] Soileღ (harperrose.starchild): i see a child spring in the life, i see joy, impatience
[12:43] Josephine Delvalle: some else?
[12:45] Kika Yongho: Will you grill me now?
[12:45] Josephine Delvalle: Seems your time has come
[12:46] Josephine Delvalle: To recall the questions:
[12:46] Josephine Delvalle: a) what state of mind does this pose express for you?
[12:46] ᴍʌᴛᴛ (matthsuogan): c
[12:46] Kika Yongho: the pose “jump” gave me a freedom feeling .. it is a jump away from everything. Done
[12:47] Josephine Delvalle: b) what story did you want to tell with the photo
[12:48] Kika Yongho: this was my thought … to leave it all behind and jump/dive into the new
[12:48] Josephine Delvalle: c) how did you tell this story/what stylistic elements did you use besides the pose?
[12:49] Kika Yongho: I placed the pose in a landscape position towards the sea+sky and with the furnitures behind me, bit blurred, to represent the state change. Done
[12:50] Josephine Delvalle: nods, I guess the lights have had also its point
[12:50] Ⴆҽҽ (filipa.emor): c
[12:50] Kika Yongho: Absolutely, the photo is titled “Into the light”
[12:50] Josephine Delvalle: d) what was the particular challenge?
[12:51] Kika Yongho: well the challenge was to try and render my idea of “freedom” using the graphical elements .. I hope to have it achieved. Done
[12:51] Josephine Delvalle: and now: Matt
[12:52] ᴍʌᴛᴛ (matthsuogan): the photograph “into the light” a woman jumping towards the sea under a night sky, i think suggest a journey courage, determination and the pursuit of new horizon amidst darkness, beautiful done Kika. Done
[12:52] Josephine Delvalle: Bee, you have a comment and a photo for us?
[12:52] Ⴆҽҽ (filipa.emor): Both
[12:53] Josephine Delvalle: we start with the comment
[12:53] Ⴆҽҽ (filipa.emor): About Kika’s I want to say that I agree with all that was said here and the picture is truly beautiful. Well done
[12:53] Kika Yongho: Thank you
[12:54] Josephine Delvalle: and now … your photo
[12:54] Ⴆҽҽ (filipa.emor): (hummm… its not complete)
[12:54] Josephine Delvalle: And to the others: what do you see and feel by watching that picture?
[12:56] A. (ava.darkheart): c
[12:56] Josephine Delvalle: Ava, please
[12:58] A. (ava.darkheart): I love the idea in this picture of the movement as life, there is past, present, future. Motion is life, life is motion, and the fact that she is jumping in the present gives the feeling that she is so in truth, somehow. Really great picture Bee! Done
[12:59] Josephine Delvalle: anyone else?
[13:00] ᴍʌᴛᴛ (matthsuogan): c
[13:00] Josephine Delvalle: If not, I need to ‘grill’ Bee
[13:02] Josephine Delvalle: ok, Matt first this time
[13:03] ᴍʌᴛᴛ (matthsuogan): the photograph depicts a central clear image of a woman jumping flanked by faded copies on her on either side against a white background, this composition i think suggests self-reflection , duality and the passage of time. beautifully done Bee. Done
[13:04] Josephine Delvalle: Thank You, Matt and now back to Bee:
[13:04] Josephine Delvalle: a) what state of mind does this pose express for you?
[13:04] Ⴆҽҽ (filipa.emor): Dare to live!
[13:04] Josephine Delvalle: short and good!
[13:04] Josephine Delvalle: b) what story did you want to tell with the photo?
[13:04] Ⴆҽҽ (filipa.emor): I imagined a passage from past, present and future. The core is the present but we should never forget there was a past and it will be a future.
[13:05] Josephine Delvalle: c) how did you tell this story/what stylistic elements did you use besides the pose?
[13:05] Ⴆҽҽ (filipa.emor): Well… Not much to be honest. Mostly I edited after. As you can see I copied parts of the “object” to give the feeling of a jump from the past to the present and the present to the future and I added some movement effect. Also faded the past and the future with white light to give the present more focus.
[13:07] Josephine Delvalle: Obviously it needed not more stylistic elements to tell your story
[13:07] Josephine Delvalle: d) what was the particular challenge?
[13:08] Ⴆҽҽ (filipa.emor): Doing it in 10 minutes! Always been bad with homework xD Now seriously the biggest challenge was to edit it, since it was a very simple raw picture to represent the stages of life.
[13:08] Ⴆҽҽ (filipa.emor): Thank you all for the kind comments! Done
[13:09] Josephine Delvalle: Thank you for showing your photo!
[13:10] Josephine Delvalle: Our time is running out, but if anyone has a photo to show, we can do it. It would be fun to see more.
[13:10] Josephine Delvalle: We can’t discuss about, but show.
[13:11] DaneAlbion: i have a silly one…not worth discussing
[13:11] Josephine Delvalle: ok dane, we will not talk about, promised
[13:11] Josephine Delvalle: (or not)
[13:12] Ⴆҽҽ (filipa.emor): C
[13:12] Josephine Delvalle: it is called: the two of us?
[13:13] DaneAlbion: its called SURPRISE!!!! or might also be called Jumping the Shark?
[13:13] Josephine Delvalle: bee, your not talk about comment, please
[13:13] Ⴆҽҽ (filipa.emor): I just wanted to say its not a silly picture but a funny one!
[13:13] A. (ava.darkheart): c
[13:14] Josephine Delvalle: Ava?
[13:14] Josephine Delvalle: If I would be the owner of the shark, I would say: he just want’s to play
[13:15] Kika Yongho: c
[13:16] A. (ava.darkheart): Yes i agree with Bee it’s a funny one, specially cause it gave me a mystic feeling about it, that it make it even more funny! The light, color, the shark above you Dane, and this feeling that you also walk on the water… King of shark? Shark saint? At least it’s make shark nicer this way :p Thanks for sharing your thought there, am super curious! And congratz on this pic also ^^ Done
[13:16] ᴍʌᴛᴛ (matthsuogan): nicely done funny one Dane
[13:16] DaneAlbion: thank you all
[13:16] Josephine Delvalle: Kika, please
[13:16] Kika Yongho: I will be super fast .. GREAT!!! And ..
https://img.fruugo.com/product/4/99/14246994_max.jpg
[13:17] Kika Yongho: done
[13:17] Josephine Delvalle: Dane made the shark look a bit cute
[13:17] Josephine Delvalle: shall we grill Dane?
[13:18] A. (ava.darkheart): grill grilllll
[13:18] DaneAlbion: grill the shark
[13:18] Josephine Delvalle: laughhhh, nono, the shark is smiling so innocently cute
[13:18] Josephine Delvalle: a) what state of mind does this pose express for you?
[13:19] DaneAlbion: state of mind would just be ‘oooo SHI……….SHAAARK!!!’
[13:20] Josephine Delvalle: b) what story did you want to tell with the photo?
[13:21] DaneAlbion: well there is no real story beyond the obvious but i did like the colours, I liked the way it had a bit of a look of 1960’s magazine photo to it
[13:21] Josephine Delvalle: Indeed
[13:21] Josephine Delvalle: c) how did you tell this story/what stylistic elements did you use besides the pose?
[13:22] DaneAlbion: the hardest part was getting the damn shark to jump when i wanted…they do not take direction well
[13:23] Josephine Delvalle: d) what was the particular challenge?
[13:23] Josephine Delvalle: (Guess, you answered that already … the shark training)
[13:23] DaneAlbion: i think i did yes
[13:24] Josephine Delvalle: Thank you, Dane
[13:24] Josephine Delvalle: It is always nice to close a round with a laughter
[13:24] Josephine Delvalle: Thank you to you all.
[13:24] Josephine Delvalle: We will see us again: 6th of April
