[12:08] Kika Yongho: So, the first of today’s intro topics is.. our “Recycled Expo”! The current exhibition on the land is Titus Palmira’s “To love and obey”, that you can admire (still) around the piers in the sea, at our beach. This expo re-opened here on last February and – as all our previous “Recycled Expos” has been on display for 3 months.
[12:09] Kika Yongho: We are gonna have a brand “new” (recycled!) expo soon, and more precisely the inauguration will be here at Photo Cafe’ on the 18th of May, with a party (PAAARTYYYY!!!) starting at h.10.00AM SLT for 2 hours before our regular episode at 12.00PM. But.. Who’s expo?
[12:10] Kika Yongho: This THE question! Who’s gonna volunteer, to re-propose a previously exhibited set of their artworks here at Photo Cafe’? You can start NOW to send me an IM if you want to take this chance, and offer a “second view” to our visitors and your public to see again some of your works that otherwise would be collecting dust in your inventory!

[12:20] Josephine Delvalle: Exhibitions are an important part of the photography scene here in SL.
[12:21] Josephine Delvalle: Most of you have either taken part in an exhibition before or do so regularly, or have consciously decided against it or are still thinking about whether you should take part or not.

[12:26] Igi (igielka): I’m a noob in expo world still, but when I had first expo I remember I felt wow, I was really honored, But ..make expo is not easy I think. As we want add something extra for show and this make some permission, free images are just free we do in way we like, but for expo we start feel obligated make something amazing. Done

But I don’t feel legitimate… I always have the feeling I can’t pose as a photographer and it’s actually a bit annoying because I like the fun, but I don’t like the “pose”… I think I prefer to post on Flickr and not risk judgement :))

[12:30] Moonsoul Kiyori: It is always an honor to be invited to exhibit. What My most important factor to accept is my rl time. Will I have the time to create or not. I am not very productive. I make 1-2 photos per month. The other factor that I consider is whether the venue wants new art or old

[12:32] Kika Yongho: I did exhibit my photos in the past and btw my very first one was Michiel’s Art Walk, whom I thank for “breaking the ice”! I did a few after and I agree with Igi and Loony that it can be stressful cause – being an “expo” it is subjected to the public judgment. I think it is part of the game no? But as time passes and expos go, it becomes a fun challenge also! And an occasion to present a wider conceptual work, I do like it. Done.

Or I make a fun pic… I think I don’t have the will to do something in between, that might also be the reason why I’m more a Flickr person. I like irony and humor, and maybe less technic and beauty.

[12:47] A. (ava.darkheart): I have never done an exhibition myself, because I always found it to be a source of stress. The pressure of the deadline, finding a theme, etc. is something I’ve seen too many people experience, in real life and in SL. So one day I decided to open a gallery in SL, to offer artists the opportunity to exhibit there in a different way, which I won’t describe now, but in any case without the usual constraints. At the same time, I had a small space to display my own photos. It was good! And my question is therefore the following, to all of you… why wait for an external “provider” and not exhibit your own photos yourself? It doesn’t take much, a place, a building, et voilà!

I actually promised I’d do my own expo and I spent so much enjoyable time to work on the deco that I’m still skipping the expo. More seriously, I think it’s indeed a good way of killing the stress and do what you want.

Because… people (moreso artists) are actually LAZY! 😀 I mean for doing it at our ease there is Flickr/FB which don’t have any hassle nor having to face people “in person”. Now this said.. Sometimes being called and having to step out your comfort zone can be actually GOOD. Dealing with stress, judgment, relating to a new expo space and deadlines… is the only way to face them and become acquainted with constraints. 😛 It is bad, but it does us good in the long run. This said your community idea is also a great one! I am done ^^

(ava.darkheart): So my comment for Kika : Laziness isn’t an excuse… you can still ask to someone to make you a little cozy place with building gallery… but again, Loony said it, it’s super exciting to prepare your own space and exhibit… I am ok with the step out of comfort zone, but it really depends on people, for some its just stress. Also there is a lot of ways to ask for help for make you own exhibit in SL, is really easy

When I’m working on Puerto Banana it’s a totally zen work, it’s a lot of fun, but then I want/need interactions. And that comes with one thing: exhibitions aren’t interactive.. People come, greet you, pat your back and there is no real exchange. In fact, what i’m searching for is interactions. And I don’t even go to openings anymore… Eventually I IM the artist to say I like his/her pics. But openings? Noone is talking!
